Atlanta, USA – Foodies, get ready to explore a new culinary landscape! The prestigious MICHELIN Guide has announced its expansion into the American South, marking its first regional guide in North America

This exciting development, revealed today by Michelin and Travel South USA, will spotlight the diverse and rich food culture across six Southern states: Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee.

Starting in 2026, Atlanta will also be included in the MICHELIN Guide American South, following the initial three-year contract for a standalone Atlanta guide (MICHELIN Guide Press Release, 2025). Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of the MICHELIN Guides, expressed enthusiasm for this new venture, stating that the "cuisine of the American South is a unique product of diverse influences creating an iconic array of specialities prepared by proud and impressive culinary talent" (MICHELIN Guide Press Release, 2025).

According to a Michelin press release, anonymous MICHELIN Guide inspectors are already on the ground, diligently seeking culinary gems throughout the region. The selection of recommended restaurants for 2025 will be unveiled at a special ceremony later this year. Liz Bittner, president & CEO of Travel South USA, emphasised the region's deserving of global recognition for its "extraordinary farm-to-table cuisine, world-class seafood, and rich food culture"

This move by the MICHELIN Guide promises to elevate the profile of Southern cuisine on a global stage, encouraging travellers to discover the unique flavours and culinary talent found in big cities and small towns across the American South.
